Charles R. Cutietta-Olson, Sculptures for a New World

Plastivegetation 10

Many of the situations we face today result from the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves and each other.  By envisioning harmony and sustainability I am trying to manifest harmony and sustainability.

The figures have four arms because I think of the inhabitants of these worlds as a bit more evolved than we are, and as a sculptor I must choose an external detail to represent this.

“Plastivegetation” could be an oxymoron and it could also describe the fact that life is a miracle of everything arising, passing away, and arising again.  We can see nature as something that needs to be preserved and protected and we can accept that nature endures regardless of human wishes.  What we feel about the natural universe isn’t as important as how we treat it and each other.
